NATS (Nissan Anti-Theft System) / Gasoline engine — Trouble Diagnoses (Cont'd) — Diagnostic Procedure 6 (LOCK MODE) (Supplement-VII)
EL-7071flowchartProcedure 6: LOCK MODE recovery. Start with 3-cycle key-dance — often the simplest fix. Then IMMU installation check + re-init. Source has stale 'EL-286' page reference (should be EL-7069).
Trouble Diagnoses (Cont'd)
DIAGNOSIC PROCEDURE 6
Self-diagnostic results: 'LOCK MODE' displayed on CONSULT-II screen
Procedure 6 — LOCK MODE recovery
1
[A] Confirm SELF-DIAGNOSTIC RESULTS 'LOCK MODE' is displayed on CONSULT-II screen.
2
1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF position. 2. Turn the ignition key switch to ON position with a registered key. (Do not start engine.) Wait 5 seconds. 3. Return the key to the OFF position. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 twice (total of three cycles). 5. Start the engine. Does the engine start?
Yes
System is OK. (Now the system is escaped from 'LOCK MODE'.)
No
3
CHECK NATS IMMU INSTALLATION. Refer to 'How to Replace NATS IMMU' in EL-290.
NG
Reinstall NATS IMMU correctly.
OK
4
PERFORM INITIALIZATION. Perform initialization with CONSULT-II. For the initialization procedure, refer to 'CONSULT-II operation manual NATS'. Can the system be initialized? Note: If the initialization is incomplete or failed, CONSULT-II shows [B] message on the screen.
No
Go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE 4, EL-286 [should be EL-7069] to check 'CHAIN OF IMMU-KEY'.
Yes
5
System is OK.
NOTE
LOCK MODE recovery sequence is unusual — start with a key-cycle dance:
1. Ign OFF → ON with registered key, wait 5 seconds, OFF again
2. Repeat for total of 3 cycles
3. Try to start
If engine starts, you've recovered from LOCK MODE without tools.
If not, check IMMU installation, then try C/U INITIALIZATION. If init can't complete, go to Procedure 4 (CHAIN OF IMMU-KEY) for hardware diagnosis.
Note: source page references 'EL-286' as the location of Procedure 4 — this is a Supplement-VI reference; in Supplement-VII the correct page is EL-7069.
WARNING
Page-reference typo in source: 'EL-286' should be 'EL-7069' for Procedure 4 in Supplement-VII. Supplement-VI's EL-286 is the legacy page; updated chapter uses EL-7069.
