BATTERY — Battery Test and Charging Chart (Cont'd) — A: Slow Charge (Base K11)
EL-20flowchartSlow charge (A) procedure. Initial current by battery type (4-14A). Charge 12h, check 12-15V at 30min. Additional charge time by SG. Caution: connect leads before turning charger on (spark), stop if temp >60°C.
Battery Test and Charging Chart (Cont'd) — A: Slow Charge
NOTE
Slow-charge procedure (referenced from Chart I, EL-18). Steps:
1. Determine initial charging current from SG (Fig.2 table — 4.0A to 14.0A by battery type)
2. Charge; check charging voltage 30 min after start: 12-15V = OK, below 12V or above 15V = replace battery
3. Continue charging 12 hours
4. Check SG
5. Additional charge per Fig.3 if needed (<1.150 → 5h, 1.150-1.200 → 4h, 1.200-1.240 → 2h, >1.240 → done)
6. Go to Capacity Test

CAUTION
a. Set charging current to value specified. If charger is not capable of producing specified current value, set its charging current as close to that value as possible.
b. Keep battery away from open flame while it is being charged.
c. When connecting charger, connect leads first, then turn on charger. Do not turn on charger first, as this may cause a spark.
d. If battery temperature rises above 60°C (140°F), stop charging. Never charge battery when its temperature is above 60°C (140°F).
