CHARGING SYSTEM — Alternator — Removal & Refitting (Power Steering / Air Conditioning) (Base K11)
EL-36prose procedureBase K11 CHARGING SYSTEM — alternator removal+refitting for PS/AC cars. Belt slackened via adjusting bolt CW (12mm topside), tensioned CCW. Torques: idler nut 25.5-32.5 N·m, mounting bolts 37-50 N·m. Belt tension details → MA section. Figs UEL035-037.
Alternator — Removal (for cars fitted with Power Steering and/or Air Conditioning)
Alternator removal (PS/AC)
- 1Remove battery negative lead from battery.
- 2From beneath car remove front and RHS splash guards.
- 3Loosen idler pulley nut (17 mm).
- 4Slacken belt by turning adjusting bolt clockwise (access from topside of engine - 12 mm).
- 5Remove power supply cable.
- 6Disconnect harness connector.
- 7Remove lower alternator mounting bolts (2 x 14 mm).
- 8Remove upper alternator mounting bolt (14 mm) and remove alternator.
Alternator — Refitting
Alternator refitting (PS/AC)
- 1Refit alternator using the reverse procedure to removal.
- 2Tighten fixing bolts to the torque specified.
- 3Tighten drive belt by turning adjusting bolt in anti-clockwise direction (Refer to MA section for full details of belt tensioning).
- 4When belt is correctly tensioned tighten idler pulley bolt to torque specified.
NOTE
Removal procedure for cars WITH power steering and/or air conditioning (more accessory pulleys / idler in the belt path). Slacken belt by turning the adjusting bolt CW (12 mm, topside access); tension by turning CCW. Refit is reverse order; belt tensioning details are in the MA (Maintenance) section. Torques: idler pulley nut 25.5-32.5 N·m, mounting bolts 37-50 N·m.
