CHARGING SYSTEM — Alternator — Removal & Refitting (Power Steering / Air Conditioning) (Base K11)

EL-36prose procedure

Base K11 CHARGING SYSTEM — alternator removal+refitting for PS/AC cars. Belt slackened via adjusting bolt CW (12mm topside), tensioned CCW. Torques: idler nut 25.5-32.5 N·m, mounting bolts 37-50 N·m. Belt tension details → MA section. Figs UEL035-037.

Alternator — Removal (for cars fitted with Power Steering and/or Air Conditioning)

Alternator removal (PS/AC)

    Remove battery negative lead from battery.
  2. 2
    From beneath car remove front and RHS splash guards.
  3. 3
    Loosen idler pulley nut (17 mm).
  4. 4
    Slacken belt by turning adjusting bolt clockwise (access from topside of engine - 12 mm).
  5. 5
    Remove power supply cable.
  6. 6
    Disconnect harness connector.
  7. 7
    Remove lower alternator mounting bolts (2 x 14 mm).
  8. 8
    Remove upper alternator mounting bolt (14 mm) and remove alternator.

Alternator — Refitting

Alternator refitting (PS/AC)

    Refit alternator using the reverse procedure to removal.
  2. 2
    Tighten fixing bolts to the torque specified.
  3. 3
    Tighten drive belt by turning adjusting bolt in anti-clockwise direction (Refer to MA section for full details of belt tensioning).
  4. 4
    When belt is correctly tensioned tighten idler pulley bolt to torque specified.
