METER AND GAUGES — Tachometer, Temp., Speedometer and Fuel Gauges — Wiring Diagram — With Gasoline Engine (Supplement-VII)
EL-7038wiring diagramGasoline gauges wiring. Tach signal is PU from ECM F62; speed signal is L/Y from VSS E31; coolant temp is OR/B from F3 sensor.

With Gasoline Engine
NOTE
Gasoline-variant gauges wiring. The COMBINATION METER M38 receives the following sense inputs:
• Pin 14 — WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR F3 (OR/B = Orange with Black). Resistive thermistor — drops as temp rises.
• Pin 18 — VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR E31 (L/Y = Blue with Yellow). Pulse signal (~4 pulses/rev of output shaft). Shared with TCM on CVT.
• Pin 19 — TACHOMETER signal from ECM F62 (PU = Purple). Square-wave pulse at firing rate.
• Pin 20 — FUEL LEVEL SENSOR UNIT M69 (R/B + B). Resistive float sender — typically ~10 Ω full, ~110 Ω empty.
TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) F46 contributes the SPORT lamp signal (L/B = Blue with Black) on CVT cars.
WARNING
Tachometer fault on gas: if tach reads zero but engine runs, suspect the PU wire between ECM F62 and cluster — easy to break at the engine-control-harness inline points (M152/F52, M154/F58).
