STARTING SYSTEM — Starter — Removal N·CVT / Installation / Solenoid Check

EL-28prose procedure

N·CVT removal requires getting under the car to remove the manifold support bracket — M/T procedure is simpler. Solenoid 3-step bench test: M↔body should conduct (motor return), B↔M / B↔body should not conduct, S↔body should conduct (coil ground).

Removal — N·CVT Transmission

  1. 1
Remove battery negative cable from battery.
  2. 2
Remove air cleaner unit from top of engine.
  3. 3
Remove upper starter motor mounting bolt (14 mm).
    Starter mounting bolts — Upper Mounting Bolt 31.4-42.2 N·m (3.2-4.3 kg·m); Lower Mounting Bolt 31.4-42.2 N·m (3.2-4.3 kg·m).

INSTALLATION

Solenoid Check

  1. 1
Continuity test (between "M" terminal and switch body). No continuity ⇒ Replace.
Solenoid continuity test 1 — ohmmeter between 'M' terminal and starter body. Solenoid contacts shown with B (battery feed) and S (signal) terminals labelled.

  2. 2
Insulation tests (between "B" and "M" terminals, and "B" terminal and solenoid body). Continuity exists ⇒ Replace.
Solenoid insulation test 2 — ohmmeter between 'B' and 'M' terminals, and between 'B' terminal and solenoid body. Continuity exists ⇒ replace.
    SEL200P
  3. 3
Continuity test between "S" terminal and switch body. No continuity ⇒ Replace.
Solenoid continuity test 3 — ohmmeter between 'S' terminal and switch body; jumper from battery to 'M' terminal. No continuity ⇒ replace.
