Wipers and Washers — Rear Wiper Motor and Amplifier

Rear wiper amplifier location differs by drive side: behind dash panel left of steering column (LHD), right of steering column (RHD).

Rear Wiper Motor — Removal

    Before removing ensure motor is in the park position by switching wipers on and off.

    Remove battery negative cable from battery.
  3. 3
    Lift wiper-arm nut cover and remove nut.
  4. 4
    Prise off wiper arm from drive pivot spline.
  5. 5
    Remove nuts holding motor to back door.
  6. 6
    Disconnect connector and remove motor.
    Replace wiper motor complete.

Rear Wiper Motor — Installation

Wiper motor installation is basically the inverse process of removal, but utilising the following salient points:

    Fit motor to back door so that the drive shaft protrudes through wiper aperture, and fix but do not tighten bolt 1.
    Exploded view of the rear wiper motor mounting at the back door. Wiper motor fixing bolts callout with torque 3.8 - 5.1 N·m (0.39 - 0.52 kg-m). Bolts numbered 1, 2 and 3 are shown.

    Fit and tighten bolts 2 and 3 to the torque indicated, followed by bolt 1.
  3. 3
    Fit wiper arm as directed in previous procedure, ensuring all operational checks are satisfactory.

REAR WIPER AMPLIFIER

Location

The Rear Wiper amplifier is located behind the front dash panel to the left of the steering column on LHD vehicles, and to the right of the steering column on RHD vehicles.

Rear Wiper Amplifier Check

  1. 1
    Connect as shown in test circuit.
    Rear wiper amplifier check test circuit. Amplifier connector shown with 1-5 / 2-4-6 pin layout, connected to a 12V battery and test lamp. Terminal 1 is the test point.

    If test lamp comes on when connected to terminal 1 and battery ground, wiper amplifier is normal.
