CHARGING SYSTEM — Alternator — Disassembly (Cont'd), Rotor/Brush/Stator-Diode Checks, Assembly (Base K11)
EL-38prose procedureBase K11 CHARGING SYSTEM — alternator disassembly cont'd + bench checks. Stator+regulator+diode are inseparable (replace as unit). Rotor: slip-ring continuity + insulation + OD per SDS. Brush wear limit 10mm (0.39in). Bearings via puller. Assembly = reverse. Figs UEL041-045.
Alternator — Disassembly (Cont'd)
Disassembly (continued)
- 5Remove screws holding stator assembly to front cover (4) and separate stator from rotor. The stator field coils are soldered to the regulator/diode pack and should not be separated. Replace stator, regulator and diode pack as a complete assembly if found defective.
- 6Bearings can be removed using suitable bearing pullers.
Rotor slip ring check
- 1With Rotor/Front Cover and Stator separated, check continuity of rotor slip rings. No continuity ... Replace rotor.
- 2Insulator test. Continuity exists ... Replace rotor.
- 3Check slip ring for wear. Slip ring minimum outer diameter: Refer to 'Service Data and Specifications'.
Brush check
- 1Check brush length for wear. Replace brush if it is worn down to 10 mm (0.39 in) or below.
- 2Check brush spring pressure. Measure brush spring pressure with brush pressed to moulding. Spring pressure: Refer to 'Service Data and Specifications'. Not within the specified values ... Replace.
STATOR AND DIODE CHECK
The stator and diode assembly cannot be separated. If the alternator output voltage is less than specified in 'Service Data and Specifications', the stator/diode assembly should be replaced as a unit.
Alternator — Assembly
The alternator should be assembled using the reverse process to disassembly.
NOTE
Key serviceability constraints on this IC-regulator alternator: the stator field coils are soldered to the regulator/diode pack — replace the stator/regulator/diode as a complete assembly, never separate. Rotor checks: slip-ring continuity (NG → replace rotor), insulation to core (continuity → replace rotor), slip-ring OD vs SDS. Brush wear limit = 10 mm (0.39 in). Bearings come off with pullers.
