BATTERY — Battery Test and Charging Chart
EL-18flowchartThree-way SG-based branching: <1.100 = slow charge, 1.100-1.220 = standard/quick, >1.220 = capacity test directly. 60°C electrolyte ceiling during charging — exceeding it ruins the battery permanently.
Battery Test and Charging Chart
1
VISUAL INSPECTION — Check battery case for cracks or bends. Check battery terminals for damage. If the difference between the max. and min. electrolyte level in cells is within 10 mm (0.39 in), it is O.K.
N.G.
Replace battery

CHECKING SPECIFIC GRAVITY — Refer to "Specific Gravity Check"
Below 1.100
Below 1.100 — SLOW CHARGE (Refer to A: Slow Charge)
Below 1.100 — SLOW CHARGE (Refer to A: Slow Charge)
CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II) — after slow charge
Above 1.220
Above 1.220 — CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II)
Above 1.220 — CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II)
CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II) — above 1.220
1.100 - 1.220
3
1.100 - 1.220 — STANDARD CHARGE (Refer to B: Standard Charge) or QUICK CHARGE (Refer to C: Quick Charge)
4
CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II) — after standard/quick charge
O.K.

5
CHECKING SPECIFIC GRAVITY (after std/quick charge NG) — Refer to "Specific Gravity Check"
6
RECHARGE — Refer to C: Quick Charge. If battery temperature rises above 60°C (140°F), stop charging. Always charge battery when its temperature is below 60°C (140°F).
7
CAPACITY TEST (Refer to Chart II) — after RECHARGE
N.G.
same as step 1
O.K.
