METER AND GAUGES — Failure Chart for 'Error code' (Supplement-VII)
EL-7041flowchartCluster self-diagnosis error-bit decoder. 8 bits cover: fuel sender (bits 0/1), VSS (bits 2/4), CPU EEPROM (bit 3), engine RPM signal (bit 5), coolant temp (bits 6/7). Reset by disconnecting battery or timing out.

NOTE
*: The error code can be reset by disconnecting battery cable or finish self-diagnosis mode via time out (20s).
Bit-by-bit failure decoding for the cluster self-diagnosis error code (steps D + E of EL-7040). Bits 0-3 are read in step D, bits 4-7 in step E. Multiple bits can be set simultaneously — e.g. an 'Err 0011' on step D means both fuel-sender short (bit 0) AND fuel-sender open (bit 1) are flagged (which would indicate an intermittent/floating sender).
WARNING
Bit 0 (short) and Bit 1 (open) on the SAME sensor circuit can both fire if the wire is intermittently open/closed during self-test. Don't assume only one is the root cause.
