BATTERY — Battery Test and Charging Chart (Cont'd) — B: Standard Charge (Base K11)
EL-21flowchartStandard charge (B). For SG 1.100-1.220. 8h charge at SG+type-dependent current (Fig.4 table). NOT for SG<1.100 (use slow charge). Same connect-leads-first / 60°C-stop cautions.
Battery Test and Charging Chart (Cont'd) — B: Standard Charge
NOTE
Standard-charge procedure (referenced from Chart I for SG 1.100-1.220 batteries). Steps:
1. Determine initial charging current from SG using Fig.4 table
2. Charge battery for 8 hours
3. Check SG
4. Additional charge per Fig.5 if needed (<1.150 → 3.5h, 1.150-1.200 → 2.5h, 1.200-1.240 → 1.5h, >1.240 → done)
5. Go to Capacity Test
Standard charge uses higher initial current than slow charge but only 8 hours (vs slow charge's 12 hours).

CAUTION
a. Do not use standard charge method on a battery whose specific gravity is less than 1.100.
b. Set charging current to value specified in Fig.4. If charger is not capable of producing specified current value, set its charging current as close to that value as possible.
c. Keep battery away from open flame while it is being charged.
d. When connecting charger, connect leads first, then turn on charger. Do not turn on charger first, as this may cause a spark.
e. If battery temperature rises above 60°C (140°F), stop charging. Never charge battery when its temperature is above 60°C (140°F).
