STARTING SYSTEM — Starter — Starter Motor (Cont'd) — N·CVT Removal, Installation, Solenoid Check (Base K11)
EL-28prose procedureBase K11 STARTING SYSTEM — N·CVT starter removal (8 steps: air cleaner + manifold support bracket access), reverse-order install, mounting bolts 31.4-42.2 N·m. Solenoid check: M↔body continuity, B↔M/B↔body insulation, S↔body continuity. Figs SEL199P/SEL200P/UEL002.
Starter Motor (Cont'd)
Removal — N·CVT Transmission
Starter removal — N·CVT
- 1Remove battery negative cable from battery.
- 2Remove air cleaner unit from top of engine.
- 3Remove upper starter motor mounting bolt (14 mm).
- 4From beneath car remove manifold support bracket.
- 5Remove battery cable from starter motor.
- 6Disconnect harness connector from starter motor harness.
- 7Remove lower starter motor mounting bolt.
- 8Remove starter motor.
INSTALLATION
• Installation procedure is the reverse order of the removal procedure.
Solenoid Check
CAUTION
• Before starting to check, disconnect battery ground cable.
• Disconnect 'M' terminal of starter motor.
Solenoid checks
- 1Continuity test (between 'M' terminal and switch body). No continuity ... Replace.
- 2Insulation tests (between 'B' and 'M' terminals, and 'B' terminal and solenoid body). Continuity exists ... Replace.
- 3Continuity test between 'S' terminal and switch body. No continuity ... Replace.
NOTE
N·CVT starter removal needs the air cleaner off (top access) plus manifold-support-bracket removal from beneath — more involved than the M/T removal on EL-27. Mounting-bolt torque is the same 31.4-42.2 N·m. Solenoid bench checks: (1) M↔body must have continuity (pull-in winding), (2) B↔M and B↔body must NOT have continuity, (3) S↔body must have continuity (hold-in winding). Failures mean replace the solenoid/starter.
