6. CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT: 1. Turn ignition switch "OFF". 2. Check harness continuity between camshaft position sensor (PHASE) terminal 1 and engine ground. Refer to wiring diagram. Continuity should exist. 3. Also check harness for short to power.

NG (GO TO 7)
7. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART: Check the following.. • Harness connectors F58, M184 • Harness for open or shaft between camshaft position sensor (POS) and body ground

Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
OK (GO TO 8)

8. CHECK CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (PHASE): Refer to "Component Inspection", EC-7186.

NG
Replace camshaft position sensor (PHASE).
OK (GO TO 8 -> 9)

9. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT: Perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT", EC-7070.

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
Camshaft Position Sensor Inspection
- 1Disconnect camshaft position sensor (PHASE) harness connector.
- 2Loosen the fixing bolt of the sensor.
- 3Remove the sensor.
- 4Visually check the sensor for chipping.
- 5Reconnect camshaft position sensor (PHASE) harness connector.
- 6Turn ignition switch "ON".
- 7Check voltage between ECM terminal 44 and ground when bringing a screwdriver into contact with, and quickly pulling away from the sensor core.
