Diagnostic Procedure 5 — Hard to start when engine is hot

Check fuel pressure. [With CONSULT] Select "Fuel Pump" with "FUNCTION TEST" showing on display. Check to ensure fuel hose is pulsating. [Without CONSULT] Pinch fuel hose with fingers. Check to ensure fuel hose becomes tight when fuel pump is operating.

Check fuel pump and circuit. Refer to "Fuel Pump" (See page EF&EC-155).

Check for vapors. Remove fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose. Plug open end of vacuum hose. Check to ensure engine starts.

Check for properties of fuel.

Check START signal. [With CONSULT] Initiate "STARTER SIGNAL" with "FUNCTION TEST" showing on display or proceed as follows: Check starter signal with "DATA MONITOR" showing on display. Starter signal: OFF (ignition switch turned to "ON") ON (ignition switch turned to "START"). [Without CONSULT] Turn ignition switch to "START". Measure voltage between E.C.U. harness connector terminal 34 and GND. Power voltage: Ignition switch turned to "START". Approx. 0 volts: ignition switch turned to any other position.
