TROUBLE DIAGNOSES - Consult (Cont'd)
EF & EC-47spec tableConsult (Cont'd)
DATA MONITOR MODE
CAS, RPM (REF)
UNITrpm
DESCRIPTION OF TEST• Indicates the engine rpm computed from the REF signal (180° signal) of the crank angle sensor. • Use a tachometer to determine engine speed and compare it with the CONSULT value.
SPECIFICATIONThe tachometer reading should be almost the same as the CONSULT value.
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Crank angle sensor Note: The accuracy of detection decreases if engine speed drops below idle rpm. If the signal is interrupted while the engine is running, an abnormal value may be indicated.
AIR FLOW METER
UNITV
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe signal voltage of the air flow meter is displayed during the engine warm-up, while: • Idle switch "OFF" • Shift lever "N"
SPECIFICATION1.3 - 1.8 V (at idle) 1.6 - 2.1 V (at 2,000 rpm)
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Air flow meter If a signal wire breaks, the voltage will decrease in a discharging curve due to the influence of the condenser in the signal circuit. When the engine is stopped, the indication is fixed at a particular level near 0V.
ENG TEMP SEN
UNIT°C or °F
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe engine water temperature (determined by the signal voltage of the water temperature sensor) is displayed.
SPECIFICATIONMore than 70°C (158°F) after engine warming up.
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Engine temperature sensor If a signal wire breaks, the voltage will decrease in a discharging curve due to the influence of the condenser in the signal circuit. When the engine is stopped, the indication is fixed at particular level near 0V.
EXH GAS SENSOR
UNITV
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe signal voltage of the exhaust gas sensor is displayed. However, when the engine is warmed up and running at 2,000 rpm.
SPECIFICATION0 - 0.3V → Approx. 0.6 - 1.0V
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Exhaust gas sensor
M/R F/C MNT
UNITRICH/ LEAN
DESCRIPTION OF TESTDisplay of exhaust gas sensor signal during air-fuel ratio feedback control Engine should be warmed up and maintained at 2,000 rpm. RICH... means the mixture became "too rich", and control is being affected toward a leaner mixture. LEAN... means the mixture became "too lean", and control is being affected toward a rich mixture.
SPECIFICATIONLEAN ↔ RICH Changes more than 5 times during 10 seconds
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Exhaust gas sensor • Intake air leaks • Injectors. After turning ON the idle switch, "RICH" is displayed until air-fuel mixture ratio feedback control begins. When the air-fuel ratio feedback is clamped, the value just before the clamping is displayed continuously.
CAR SPEED SEN
UNITmph or km/h
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe vehicle speed computed from the vehicle speed sensor signal is displayed. Turn the drive wheels and compare the CONSULT value with the speedometer reading.
SPECIFICATIONAlmost the same speed as the CONSULT value.
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Vehicle speed sensor
UNITV
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe power supply voltage of the ECU is displayed with the ignition in the "ON" position (engine stopped).
SPECIFICATION11 - 14V
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Battery • E.C.U. power supply circuit
THROTTLE SEN
UNITV
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe throttle sensor signal voltage is displayed with the ignition switched "ON" (engine stopped).
SPECIFICATION0.45 - 0.55 V (Throttle valve fully closed) Approx. 4.0 V (Throttle valve fully open)
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Throttle sensor • Throttle sensor circuit
STARTER SIGNAL
UNITON/OFF
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe ON/OFF condition from the starter signal is indicated when the ignition switch is turned from ON → START.
SPECIFICATIONOFF → ON
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.If after starting the engine, "OFF" is displayed regardless of the starter signal check the following: • Harness and connector • Ignition switch
IDLE POSITION
UNITON/OFF
DESCRIPTION OF TESTThe idle position is determined from the throttle sensor signal. Ignition switch is turned "ON" (engine stopped). • Idle switch idle position • OFF - Throttle valve slightly open.
SPECIFICATIONOFF → ON
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Throttle sensor • Throttle sensor circuit
AIR COND SIG
UNITON/OFF
DESCRIPTION OF TESTIndicates condition of the air conditioner switch as determined by the air conditioner switch signal. Idle the engine after warming up.
SPECIFICATION"OFF" (A/C switch OFF) ON (A/C switch ON)
CHECK ITEM WHEN OUTSIDE SPEC.• Harness and connector • Air conditioner switch
