PRECAUTIONS - Engine Fuel & Emission Control System
EF & EC-4002component photoEngine Fuel & Emission Control System
BATTERY
NOTE
Always use a 12 volt battery as power source.
Do not attempt to disconnect battery cables while engine is running.
INJECTOR
NOTE
Do not disconnect injector harness connector with engine running.
Do not apply battery power directly to injectors.
ECM
NOTE
Do not disassemble ECCS control unit (ECM).
Do not turn diagnosis mode selector forcibly.
If a battery terminal is disconnected, the memory will return to the ROM value. The ECCS will now start to self-control at its initial value. Engine operation can vary slightly when the terminal is disconnected. However, this is not an indication of a problem. Do not replace parts because of a slight variation.
WIRELESS EQUIPMENT
NOTE
When installing CB, ham radio or a mobile phone, be sure to observe the following as it may adversely affect electronic control systems depending on its installation location.
- 1Keep the antenna as far away as possible from the electronic control units.
- 2Keep the antenna feeder line more than 20 cm (7.9 in) away from the harness of electronic controls. Do not let them run parallel for a long distance.
- 3Adjust the antenna and feeder line so that the standing-wave ratio can be kept smaller.
- 4Be sure to ground the radio to vehicle body.
ECCS PARTS HANDLING
NOTE
Handle air flow meter carefully to avoid damage.
Do not disassemble air flow meter.
Do not clean air flow meter with any type of detergent.
Do not disassemble auxiliary air control valve.
Even a slight leak in the air intake system can cause serious problems.
Do not shock or jar the camshaft position sensor.
WHEN STARTING
NOTE
Do not depress accelerator pedal when starting.
Immediately after starting, do not rev up engine unnecessarily.
Do not rev up engine just prior to shutdown.
FUEL PUMP
NOTE
Do not operate fuel pump when there is no fuel in lines.
Tighten fuel hose clamps to the specified torque.
ECCS HARNESS HANDLING
NOTE
Securely connect ECCS harness connectors. A poor connection can cause an extremely high (surge) voltage to develop in coil and condenser, thus resulting in damage to ICs.
Keep ECCS harness at least 10 cm (3.9 in) away from adjacent harnesses, to prevent an ECCS system malfunction due to induction of external noise.
Keep ECCS parts and harnesses dry.
Before removing parts, turn off ignition switch and then disconnect battery ground cable.
