Diagnostic Procedure 19 — Surging

1. Check air intake for leaks. • Start engine. • Check to ensure engine speed increases when blow-by hose is pinched with fingers.

2. Conduct power balance test. With CONSULT: • Start engine. • Conduct "POWER BALANCE" test with "ACTIVE TEST" showing on display. Test must be finished as quickly as possible. Do not conduct test while vehicle is being driven. • Check to ensure idle speed momentarily decreases while testing each cylinder. Without CONSULT: • Start engine. • Check to ensure idle speed momentarily decreases when each injector connector is removed from cylinder.
