Step 1 has source typo "hairness" for "harness" preserved. Step 2 says "ECH harness connector 71" which is likely "ECM harness connector terminal 71" — preserved verbatim.

Diagnostic Procedure

Step 1 — CHECK POWER SUPPLY

  1. 1
    Turn ignition switch "OFF".
  2. 2
    Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor harness connector. (See NEF151A)
  3. 3
    Turn ignition switch "ON".
  4. 4
    Check voltage between terminal 2 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. (See SEF997W)
  5. 5
    Voltage: Approximately 5 V.
  6. 6
    OK or NG: - OK → GO TO 2. - NG → Repair hairness or connectors.

Step 2 — CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. 1
    Turn ignition switch "OFF".
  2. 2
    Check harness continuity between ECTS terminal 1 and ECH harness connector 71 or body ground. Refer to wiring diagram. Continuity should exist.
  3. 3
    Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
  4. 4
    OK or NG: - OK → GO TO 4. - NG → GO TO 3.

Step 3 — DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART

  1. 1
    Check the following. - Harness for open or short between ECM and engine coolant temperature sensor.
