Diagnostic Procedure (Cont'd)

Step 3 — CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT

  1. 1
    Turn ignition switch "OFF".
  2. 2
    Check harness continuity between throttle position sensor harness connector terminal 2 and ECM terminal 71 or ground. Refer to wiring diagram. Continuity should exist.
  3. 3
    Also check harness for short to power.
  4. 4
    OK or NG: - OK → GO TO 5. - NG → GO TO 4.

Step 4 — DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART

  1. 1
    Check the harness for open or short between ECM and throttle position sensor.
  2. 2
    → Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.

Step 5 — CHECK INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT

  1. 1
    Disconnect ECM harness connector.
  2. 2
    Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 73 and throttle position sensor harness connector terminal 3. Refer to wiring diagram. Continuity should exist.
  3. 3
    Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
  4. 4
    OK or NG: - OK → GO TO 6. - NG → Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

Step 6 — CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR

  1. 1
    Refer to "Component Inspection", EC-7095.
  2. 2
    OK or NG: - OK → GO TO 7. - NG → Replace throttle position sensor.

Step 7 — CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT

  1. 1
    Perform "TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT", EC-7070.
  2. 2
    → INSPECTION END.
