INSPECTION START

CHECK POWER SUPPLY. 1) Disconnect camshaft position sensor harness connector. 2) Turn ignition switch ON. 3) Check voltage between terminal e and ground. Voltage: Battery voltage

Check the following: Harness connectors F21, M17 (LHD models); Harness connectors F28, M23 (RHD models); Harness connectors M59, E55 (LHD models); Harness connectors M3, E1 (RHD models); Harness continuity between camshaft position sensor and ECCS relay; 25A fusible link; Harness continuity between 25A fusible link and ECCS relay. If NG, replace fusible link or repair harness or connectors.
Check the following: Harness connectors F21, M17 (LHD models); Harness connectors F28, M23 (RHD models); Harness connectors M59, E55 (LHD models); Harness connectors M3, E1 (RHD models); Harness continuity between camshaft position sensor and ECCS relay; 25A fusible link; Harness continuity between 25A fusible link and ECCS relay. If NG, replace fusible link or repair harness or connectors.

CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT. 1) Turn ignition switch OFF. 2) Check harness continuity between terminal f and engine ground. Continuity should exist.

Repair harness or connectors.

CHECK INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT. 1) Reconnect camshaft position sensor harness connector. 2) Start engine. 3) Read camshaft position sensor signals in DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT. rpm: 800±50. OR 1) Disconnect ECM harness connector. 2) Check harness continuity between camshaft position sensor terminal d and ECM terminals 22, 30 (Australia), 31, 40 (Except Australia) (180° signal). Continuity should exist.

CHECK COMPONENT (Camshaft position sensor). Refer to Electrical Components Inspection.
NG
Replace camshaft position sensor.

Check ECM pin terminals for damage or poor connection of ECM harness connector.
