Installation

  1. 1
    Confirm that No. 1 piston is set at T.D.C. on its compression stroke.
    Crankshaft pulley with timing marks; pointer at top with marks TDC, 5°, 10°, 15°, 20°. Used to confirm No. 1 piston at TDC on compression stroke.

    Set idler sprocket by aligning the mating mark on the larger sprocket with the yellow mating mark on the lower timing chain.

    Install upper timing chain and set it by aligning the mating mark on the smaller sprocket with the silver mating marks on the upper timing chain.
    Make sure sprocket's mating mark faces engine front.

    Install idler sprocket shaft from the rear side.
    Ensure that the shaft is located correctly, as shown.

    Install cylinder head with new gasket.
    Do not rotate crankshaft and camshaft separately, or valves will strike piston heads.
    Before installing cylinder head gasket, apply a continuous bead of liquid gasket as shown in the figure.
    Be sure to install washers between bolts and cylinder head.
    Bead width 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in).
