COMPRESSION PRESSURE — Measurement of Compression Pressure (Supplement-V)
EM-5008prose procedureDiesel compression test (~30 bar standard) — consistent with VJZ being a diesel engine. Glow-plug-bore method used because diesel has no spark plugs. Injection-pump harness must be disconnected to prevent fuel injection during cranking.
Measurement of Compression Pressure
- 1Warm up engine and switch off the ignition switch.
- 2Remove glow cable and glow plugs.
NEM311 - 3Fit compression gauge adapter SST KV109B0040 to cylinder head.Compression gauge adapter torque: 15 - 20 N·m (1.5 - 2.0 kg-m, 11 - 14 ft-lb)
NEM312 - 4Ensure the ignition switch is in the "LOCK" position and disconnect harness connector (black coloured) from injection pump.
NEM313 - 5Crank engine, then read gauge indication.Always use a fully-charged battery to obtain specified engine revolution.Engine compression measurement should be made as quickly as possible.
- 6If cylinder compression in one or more cylinders is low, pour a small amount of engine oil into cylinders through the glow holes and retest compression. If adding oil helps compression, piston rings may be worn or damaged. If pressure stays low, valve may be sticking or seating incorrectly. If cylinder compression in any two adjacent cylinders is low, and if adding oil does not help the compression, there is leakage past the gasket surface. Leakage past the cylinder gasket can result in oil and water becoming mixed in the engine block cooling and lubrication chambers.
