CYLINDER BLOCK — Assembly (Cont'd) Connecting Rods, Caps, Rear Oil Seal Retainer (Supplement-V)
EM-5045prose procedureStep 5b appears in source as sub-bullet 'b' of step 5 (paired with sub-bullet 'a' = install pistons into cylinders). Step 6 is split into sub-bullets a (clean) and b (apply gasket). Source numbering preserved with composite step ids (5b, 6b). Liquid gasket bead 2.0-3.0 mm diameter on rear seal retainer matches the front-retainer / oil-pan bead convention.
Assembly (Cont'd)
Cylinder block assembly (continued)
- 4Install connecting rod bearings in connecting rods and connecting rod caps.
- 5Install pistons with connecting rods.Be careful not to scratch cylinder wall by connecting rod.Arrange so that piston clover leaf faces toward the oil filter.a. Install them into corresponding cylinders with Tool.
NEM308 - 5bInstall connecting rod caps. Tighten connecting rod cap nuts to the specified torque.Connecting rod cap nuts:Tighten to 40 N·m (4.1 kg-m, 29.5 ft-lb)After installation, check piston protrusion. Refer to "Inspection" (EM-5042).
NEM309 - 6Install rear oil seal retainer.a. Before installing rear oil seal retainer, remove all traces of liquid gasket from mating surface using a scraper. Also remove traces of liquid gasket from mating surface of cylinder block.
SEM218D - 6bApply a continuous bead of liquid gasket to mating surface of rear oil seal retainer.Bead diameter: 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in)Use Genuine Liquid Gasket or equivalent.
