Timing chain removal (continued)

    Remove thermostat housing.
    Thermostat housing on the cylinder head with arrows indicating the bolts to be removed.

    Remove chain tensioner.

    Loosen idler sprocket bolt.

    Remove camshaft sprocket bolts.

    Remove camshaft sprockets.
  6. 18
    Remove camshaft brackets and camshafts. Loosen in numerical order.
    These parts should be reassembled in their original positions.
    Bolts should be loosened in two or three steps.

    Remove idler sprocket bolt.

    Remove cylinder head with manifolds. Loosen in numerical order.
    Head warpage or cracking could result from removing bolts in incorrect order.
    Cylinder head bolts should be loosened in two or three steps.

    Remove idler sprocket and shaft.

    Remove upper timing chain.

    Remove oil pan. Refer to "Removal" in "OIL PAN".

    Remove oil strainer.

    Remove crankshaft pulley.

    Support engine with a suitable jack.
