CYLINDER BLOCK — Assembly (Cont'd) Crankshaft (Supplement-V)
EM-5044prose procedureMain bearing cap bolts use a two-stage process: 20 N·m preliminary in order shown (NEM306 — cross pattern from centre outward) + 50° angular tightening. Matches the disassembly loosening pattern documented on EM-5036 (NEM295) but in reverse.

Crankshaft assembly
- 1Set main bearings in their proper positions on cylinder block and main bearing cap.Confirm that correct main bearings are used. Refer to "Inspection" (EM-5040).No. 2 and No. 4 main bearing halfshells have an oil groove. The oil grooves of the thrust bearing should face the crankshaft.
NEM297 - 2Install crankshaft and main bearing caps and tighten bolts as follows:Main bearing cap bolts:(1) Tighten to 20 N·m (2.0 kg-m, 14.8 ft-lb) in order shown.(2) Turn bolts to 50° degrees clockwise with an angle wrench in order shown. After securing bearing cap bolts, make sure crankshaft turns smoothly by hand.
NEM306 - 3Measure crankshaft end play.Crankshaft end play:Standard: 0.07 - 0.27 mm (0.0024 - 0.0102 in)If beyond the standard clearance, replace thrust bearing with a new one.
