Valve clearance — Adjusting (continued)
- 2Place Tool KV109B0100 around camshaft as shown in figure.Be careful not to damage cam surface with Tool KV109B0100.
NEM285 - 3Rotate lever so that valve lifter is pushed down.
NEM286 - 4Remove adjusting shim using a small screwdriver and a magnetic finger.
NEM287 - 5Determine replacement adjusting shim size using following formula.Using a micrometer determine thickness of removed shim.Calculate thickness of new adjusting shim so valve clearance comes within specified values.R = Thickness of removed shimN = Thickness of new shimM = Measured valve clearanceIntake: N = R + [M − 0.15 mm (0.006 in)]Exhaust: N = R + [M − 0.30 mm (0.012 in)]Shims are available in 59 sizes from 3.20 mm (0.126 in) to 4.90 mm (0.193 in).Select new shim with thickness as close as possible to calculated value.
SEM145D - 6Install new shim using a suitable tool.Install with the surface on which the thickness is stamped facing down.
