Timing chain removal

  1. 1
    Drain engine coolant from radiator and cylinder block. Be careful not to spill coolant on drive belts.

    Remove the alternator and power steering drive belts.

    Remove air cleaner.

    Remove front right-side wheel.
  5. 5
    Remove front and right-side splashguards.

    Remove front exhaust tube.

    Remove rocker cover.

    Remove distributor cap.
  9. 9
    Remove all spark plugs.
  10. 10
    Set No. 1 piston at T.D.C. on compression stroke. Make sure No. 1 cylinder is at T.D.C. by looking at distributor rotor position.

    Remove distributor.
    Distributor cap removed; rotor and base of distributor visible mounted on the cylinder head. Used to verify No.1 cylinder TDC by rotor position.

    Remove cam sprocket cover.
