TIMING BELT — Installation (Cont'd) and Tensioning (Supplement-V)

EM-5015prose procedure

Two distinct tension targets exist: pretension (EM-5014: 98/75) and final tension after two crank revolutions (EM-5015: 54/44). Lower final value is expected because seating relaxes the belt.

Installation (Cont'd)

Timing belt — Installation (continued)

  1. 3
Remove one bolt from each sprocket to make certain that they are not at the end of their slots.
Front of engine with one sprocket bolt removed (arrow pointing to a single bolt removed/circled-X icon) — illustrates step 3 (remove one bolt from each sprocket).
    NEM259
  2. 4
Re-install the sprocket bolts and tighten the bolts to the specified torque while holding the sprockets from rotating with SST KV109B0070.
  3. 5
Remove all locking pins and rotate crankshaft two revolutions clockwise.

Tensioning the timing belt

  1. 1
Re-install flywheel locking pin SST KV109B0112.
Flywheel access hole with KV109B0112 flywheel locking pin engaged — illustrates tensioning step 1 (re-install flywheel locking pin).
    NEM254
  2. 2
Re-install camshaft and injection pump locking pins SST KV109B0111 and KV109B0110.
Front of engine with arrows pointing at the camshaft pulley and injection-pump pulley showing the camshaft locking pin (KV109B0111) and injection-pump locking pin (KV109B0110) re-installed — illustrates tensioning step 2.
    NEM255
  3. 3
Loosen the camshaft and injection pump sprocket bolts slightly and loosen tensioner nut.
Front of engine with arrows indicating that camshaft and injection-pump sprocket bolts are slackened and the tensioner nut loosened — illustrates tensioning step 3.
    NEM260
  4. 4
Install SST KV109B0030 on the edge of the belt. Take care not to obstruct any other component.
Front of engine with SST KV109B0030 belt-tension gauge installed on the belt edge and SST KV109B0080 tensioner lever fitted to the tensioner pulley — illustrates tensioning steps 4–5.
    NEM258
  5. 5
Rotate tensioner counter-clockwise to obtain a reading of: 54 SEEM units for a new belt; 44 SEEM units for a used belt. Tighten tensioner nut to the specified torque. Remove SST KV109B0030.
Final belt tension — new beltAfter two crank revolutions, with KV109B0030 gauge
54SEEM units
Final belt tension — used beltAfter two crank revolutions, with KV109B0030 gauge
44SEEM units
