EM-32prose procedure

Inspection (Cont'd)

Valve guide clearance (continued)

  1. 2
If it exceeds the limit, check valve to valve guide clearance. (a) Measure valve stem diameter and valve guide inner diameter. (b) Check that clearance is within specification.
Micrometer measuring outer diameter of a valve stem (held vertically). Callout: "Micrometer".

Valve guide clearance (end)

  1. c
If it exceeds the limit, replace valve or valve guide.

Valve guide replacement

  1. 1
To remove valve guide, heat cylinder head to 110 to 120°C (230 to 248°F).
Cylinder head submerged/heated in an oil bath in a heated tank, oil arrow pointing at the bath. Used to heat the head to 110–120°C to release the valve guides for removal.

  2. 2
Press out valve guide or use a hammer and suitable tool.
Hammer driving a punch/drift into a valve guide on the cylinder head combustion-chamber face to press the old valve guide out. Asterisks (★) on the head indicate heated areas.

  3. 3
Ream cylinder head valve guide hole. Valve guide hole diameter (for service parts): Intake & Exhaust — 9.680 - 9.695 mm (0.3811 - 0.3817 in).
Reamer being run through a valve-guide hole on the cylinder head to size it to the correct diameter for the new service-part valve guide.
