FUNCTION - System Construction / Electromagnetic Powder Clutch
AT-7prose procedureSYSTEM CONSTRUCTION
NOTE
The N-CVT consists of four main systems:
- 1Electromagnetic Powder Clutch (including ECU control circuitry).
- 2Forward and reverse synchromesh changeover system.
- 3Steel belt and pulleys.
- 4Final drive reduction gears.
1. Electromagnetic Powder Clutch.
NOTE
The electromagnetic powder clutch operates on basic principles of physics - electricity and magnetism. When iron powder is magnetised, the particles become linked in chain fashion, and the powder, put simply, "solidifies". If a small gap between driving and driven members is filled with powder, and current applied to it, then the members become connected and transmission torque (drive) is generated. The transmission torque is proportional to the amount of current supplied.
Current is supplied via coils located in the driven member. When the current flow is cut off, the transmission torque disappears.
