OPERATION - Performance Characteristics / Selector Lever Function

AT-15prose procedure

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS

Speed change characteristic.

Selector lever function.

  1. 1
"D" Position. Normal driving mode, from starting off to maximum speed. Speed change occurs between 1600 and 4000 rev/min depending upon gradual or fast acceleration. When cruising speed is reached and pressure on the accelerator pedal is reduced (transmission enters overdrive), the pulley ratio is at maximum. If the pedal is pressed while cruising - ie to accelerate - the pulley ratio shifts to minimum and vehicle speed rises quickly.
Two performance graphs of engine revolution vs vehicle speed. Left graph compares N-CVT (solid) with manual transmission (dashed showing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th speed, overdrive). Right graph shows N-CVT MAX line, Ds range region, Ds (MIN), and D (MIN) curves.

  2. 2
"Ds" Position. In the "Ds" mode, the speed (ratio) range is limited to the higher zone of the speed change region. "Ds" also provides an engine braking effect.
  3. 3
"R" Position. In the reverse mode, the pulleys are locked in "low", and the speed (ratio) change does not occur.
  4. 4
"P" Position. In the park position, the output (secondary) pulley is locked mechanically.
  5. 5
"N" Position. In this position, the forward and reverse changeover is locked in a neutral state.
Speed change rpm range (D)
1600 - 4000rev/min
