FUNCTION - Belt and Pulley Mechanism / Steel Belt / Pulleys
AT-13prose procedure3. Belt and pulley mechanism
NOTE
The drives through a belt and pulley arrangement. This consists of a steel belt, an input (primary) pulley, and an output (secondary) pulley.
The pulley groove widths can be varied in the axial direction, giving continuous (stepless) speed changes from low (ratio 2.5037) to overdrive (ratio 0.4977).
Groove width is determined by hydraulic pressure acting upon a chamber in the sliding half of the pulley.
Steel belt.
NOTE
The steel drive belt consists of 280 steel plates supported by two laminated steel bands.
When hydraulic pressure is applied to the output (secondary) pulley, the steel plates are forced upwards creating a tension at the bands. Power is therefore transmitted by compression of the steel blocks, with the laminated bands maintaining the necessary friction force.

NOTE
Both input (primary) and output (secondary) pulleys consist of a fixed sheave and a sliding sheave. The slope of the sheave is 11 degrees. A hydraulic chamber is located at the rear of the sliding sheave. The sheave moves on a ball splined shaft.
