A synchromesh changeover system allows for forward to reverse shifting, at the same time eliminating "shift squeak" (occurs when the belt tries to reverse direction very quickly.)
"N" POSITION.
Neutral.
NOTE
The synchroniser sleeve is central on the hub, and no power is transmitted.
"D" AND "Ds" POSITION.
Forward.
NOTE
The synchroniser sleeve shifts to the right. Power is transmitted through the hub to the primary (input) pulley.
"R" POSITION.
Reverse.
NOTE
The synchroniser sleeve shifts to the left. Power is transmitted through the reverse idler gear and counter gear to the primary pulley.
"P" POSITION.
Park.
NOTE
The synchroniser sleeve remains at the reverse position. The park rod and cam engage the park pawl with the park gear. The output shaft is mechanically locked.
