Mainshaft assembly (final steps)

    Press on mainshaft front bearing.
    Press setup using two drifts (one above mainshaft, one below the bearing) to press the mainshaft front bearing onto the shaft.

    Measure gear end play as a final check — Refer to "Disassembly".

Final drive disassembly

    Remove final gear.
  2. 2
    Remove speedometer drive gear by cutting it.
  3. 3
    Press out differential side bearings.
    Be careful not to mix up the right and left bearings.
    Special tool ST30031000 (press splitter) supporting the differential case under the side bearing; drift on top presses out the differential side bearing.

    Remove viscous coupling — RS5F31V.
    Two hands using a hammer / drift to drive the viscous coupling out of the differential case on the RS5F31V variant.

    Drive out retaining pin and draw out pinion mate shaft.
    Drift used to drive out the retaining pin from the pinion mate shaft of the differential; star bursts indicate the pin breaking free.

    Remove pinion mate gears and side gears.
