Mainshaft assembly (continued)

    Install steel ball, 4th bushing and 4th main gear.
    Apply multi-purpose grease to steel ball before installing it.
    4th bushing has a groove in which steel ball fits.
    Exploded sub-assembly showing 4th main gear and 4th bushing being installed onto the mainshaft after seating the steel ball in the shaft groove.

    Press on 5th main gear.
    Special tool ST37750000 (gear installer) being used to press the 5th main gear onto the mainshaft.

    Install thrust washer.
    C-ring holder, C-ring and thrust washer being installed on the mainshaft (reverse of disassembly fig SMT592).

    Select proper C-ring to minimize clearance of groove in mainshaft and install it.
    Allowable clearance of groove: 0 - 0.1 mm (0 - 0.004 in)
    Mainshaft C-ring: Refer to S.D.S.
  5. 9
    Install C-ring holder.
  6. 10
    Press on mainshaft rear bearing.
    Special tool ST22360002 (bearing installer) being used to press the mainshaft rear bearing onto the shaft.

0 - 0.1mm (0 - 0.004 in)
