Final drive assembly

  1. 1
    Fit side gear thrust washers and side gears, then install pinion mate washers and pinion mate gears in place.
    Open differential case viewed from the top with side gear thrust washers and side gears installed, and pinion mate washers/pinion mate gears positioned for assembly.

    Insert pinion mate shaft.
    When inserting, be careful not to damage pinion mate washers.

    Measure clearance between side gear and pinion mate gear, referring to "Inspection". If necessary, adjust.
    Side gear to pinion mate clearance: 0 - 0.3 mm (0 - 0.012 in).
    Side gear thrust washer: Refer to S.D.S.
  4. 4
    Install pinion mate shaft lock pin using a punch.
    Make sure that lock pin is flush with case.
    Pin punch and hammer being used to install the pinion mate shaft lock pin; callout 'Retaining pin'. Star markers show strike point.

    Install final gear.

    Install speedometer drive gear and stopper.

    Install differential side bearing inner race.
