DISASSEMBLY

Mainshaft disassembly

  1. 1
    Before disassembly, check 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th main gear end plays.
    Gear end play: Refer to S.D.S.
    If not within specification, disassemble and check contact surface of gear, shaft and hub. Then check clearance of C-ring groove — Refer to "Assembly".
    Feeler-gauge measurement of mainshaft gear end play; needle bearing or bushing, gear and end-play gap are called out.

    Press out mainshaft front bearing.
    Press setup with drift over the mainshaft and special tool ST22730000 supporting the bearing from below to press out the mainshaft front bearing.

    Press out mainshaft rear bearing.
    Press setup with two splitter tools supporting the mainshaft rear bearing while the mainshaft is pressed out.

    Remove C-rings, C-ring holder and thrust washer.
    C-rings, C-ring holder and thrust washer being slid off the mainshaft; each component is called out.

    Press out 5th main gear.
    Hook tool under flange as indicated by arrows.
    Special tool ST22730000 hooked under the 5th main gear flange (arrows indicate hook position) while the mainshaft is pressed downward to press out the 5th main gear.
