Mainshaft assembly (continued)

  1. 1-warning
    Spread-spring installation note (continuation of step 1 from MT-46).
    Be careful not to hook front and rear ends of spread spring to the same insert.
    Spread spring shown wrapped around three shifting inserts. Caution: do not hook the front and rear ends of the spread spring on the same insert.

    Install 1st gear needle bearing and 1st main gear.
    Special tool ST22452000 (press / installer) being used on the mainshaft to install 1st gear needle bearing, 1st main gear and press on 1st & 2nd synchronizer.

    Press on 1st & 2nd synchronizer.
  4. 4
    Install steel ball, 2nd main gear, 2nd & 3rd bushing, 3rd main gear and 3rd & 4th synchronizer.
    Apply multi-purpose grease to steel ball before installing it.
    2nd & 3rd bushing has a groove in which steel ball fits.
    Special tool ST37750000 (synchronizer-hub installer) being used to press the 3rd & 4th synchronizer hub onto the mainshaft after installing steel ball, 2nd main gear, 2nd & 3rd bushing and 3rd main gear.
