Mainshaft disassembly (continued)

    Remove snap ring.
    Snap ring being removed from the mainshaft using snap-ring pliers.

    Remove thrust washer and steel ball.
    Thrust washer being removed from the mainshaft using two tools while another hand catches a steel ball.

    Remove 2nd gear and snap ring. Then, remove 1st & 2nd synchronizer hub and 1st gear.
    Mainshaft in a press fixture with callouts for '1st & 2nd synchronizer hub' and '1st gear' to be removed after the 2nd gear and snap ring.

    Remove mainshaft front bearing inner race.
    Mainshaft in a press fixture with two special tools ('Tool') engaged on either side of the mainshaft front bearing inner race to pull it off.

    Check all gears for excessive wear, chips or cracks; replace as required.
  2. 2
    Check shaft for bending, crack, wear or worn spline; if necessary, replace.

Baulk ring

    Replace baulk ring if found to be deformed, cracked or otherwise damaged excessively.
