ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM — System Components / System Description
BR-35component photoEach wheel sensor mounted on the knuckle facing the rear of the brake disc; the toothed sensor rotor is fixed to the drive shaft (so the rear sensors live on the trailing-arm side of the rear hub).

System Description
SENSOR
NOTE
The sensor unit consists of a gear-shaped rotor and a sensor element containing a bar magnet around which a coil is wound. The sensor is installed on the knuckle, facing the rear side of the brake disc. The sensor rotor is fixed to the drive shaft. Sine-wave current is generated by the sensor as the wheel rotates. The frequency and voltage increase(s) as the rotating speed increases.
ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
NOTE
The electronic control unit (E.C.U.) computes the rotating speed of the wheel by the signal current sent from the wheel sensor, and supplies a DC current to the actuator solenoid valves provided for each wheel. It also controls ON-OFF operation of the valve relay and pump relay. If any electrically detectable malfunction should occur in the system, the control unit causes the warning light to light up. In this condition, the A.B.S. will be deactivated by the control unit, and the vehicle's braking system reverts to normal operation.
