BRAKE BOOSTER — Removal (Cont'd) / Inspection (With A.B.S.)
BR-13prose procedureRHD-models figure header on UBR050 prints 'LHD Models' — likely a layout/labelling error; the surrounding procedure makes clear the figure illustrates the right-hand-drive removal pattern. Captured verbatim.
Removal (Cont'd)
NOTE
Due to the close proximity of other engine room components, space around the booster is limited. Care should be taken during removal not to damage the brake booster or other components, brake pipes, hoses, etc.
RHD models
- 1Remove brake pipes from mounting brackets.
UBR050 - 2Displace power steering hose/switch mounting bracket for access.
- 3Remove master cylinder. Refer to "Removal" in "Master cylinder".
- 4Remove clevis pin (brake pedal to booster input rod).
- 5Disconnect vacuum hose.
- 6Remove mounting nuts (brake pedal bracket to booster).
- 7Tilt booster, draw upwards and remove.
NOTE
Ensure mounting bolt threads are not damaged.
LHD models
- 1Remove air cleaner.
UBR051 - 2Remove brake pipes from mounting brackets.
- 3Remove master cylinder. Refer to "Removal" in "Master cylinder".
- 4Remove clevis pin (brake pedal to booster input rod).
- 5Disconnect vacuum hose.
- 6Remove mounting nuts (brake pedal bracket to booster).
- 7Take care not to foul ABS actuator. If necessary, loosen actuator tube nuts, actuator securing nuts and reposition actuator slightly for ease of removal (ABS only). Tilt booster, draw upwards and remove. Ensure mounting bolt threads are not damaged.
Inspection (With A.B.S.)
OUTPUT ROD LENGTH CHECK
- 1Supply brake booster with vacuum of -66.7 kPa (-667 mbar, -500 mmHg, -19.69 inHg) using a vacuum pump.
SBR281A - 2Check output rod length.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Specified output rod length (with -66.7 kPa vacuum) | 22.2 - 22.6mm (0.874 - 0.890 in) |
