BRAKE BOOSTER — Removal (Cont'd) / Inspection (With A.B.S.)

BR-13prose procedure

RHD-models figure header on UBR050 prints 'LHD Models' — likely a layout/labelling error; the surrounding procedure makes clear the figure illustrates the right-hand-drive removal pattern. Captured verbatim.

Removal (Cont'd)

RHD models

  1. 1
Remove brake pipes from mounting brackets.
RHD models — booster removal access. Arrows indicate that brake pipes (from the master cylinder side) and the P.A.S. (power-assisted steering) bracket must be displaced for access to the booster mounting and clevis pin. View into the engine bay from above.
    UBR050
  2. 2
Displace power steering hose/switch mounting bracket for access.
  3. 3
Remove master cylinder. Refer to "Removal" in "Master cylinder".
  4. 4
Remove clevis pin (brake pedal to booster input rod).
  5. 5
    Disconnect vacuum hose.
  6. 6
Remove mounting nuts (brake pedal bracket to booster).
  7. 7
Tilt booster, draw upwards and remove.

LHD models

  1. 1
    Remove air cleaner.
LHD models (ABS only) — booster removal access. Air cleaner must be removed, and care taken not to foul ABS actuator. Arrows point at the air cleaner above and at the ABS actuator on the inner fender.
    UBR051
  2. 2
Remove brake pipes from mounting brackets.
  3. 3
Remove master cylinder. Refer to "Removal" in "Master cylinder".
  4. 4
Remove clevis pin (brake pedal to booster input rod).
  5. 5
    Disconnect vacuum hose.
  6. 6
Remove mounting nuts (brake pedal bracket to booster).
  7. 7
Take care not to foul ABS actuator. If necessary, loosen actuator tube nuts, actuator securing nuts and reposition actuator slightly for ease of removal (ABS only). Tilt booster, draw upwards and remove. Ensure mounting bolt threads are not damaged.

Inspection (With A.B.S.)

OUTPUT ROD LENGTH CHECK

  1. 1
Supply brake booster with vacuum of -66.7 kPa (-667 mbar, -500 mmHg, -19.69 inHg) using a vacuum pump.
Output-rod length check: brake booster supplied with vacuum from a hand vacuum pump; output rod length measured from the booster face to the tip of the rod.
    SBR281A
  2. 2
    Check output rod length.
Specified output rod length (with -66.7 kPa vacuum)
22.2 - 22.6mm (0.874 - 0.890 in)
