PARKING BRAKE CONTROL — Inspection / Adjustment

BR-32prose procedure

Disc-brake variant has an extra release check — the caliper-side lever must return to its stopper bolt when the hand-brake is fully released; if it doesn't the cable is too tight.

Inspection

    Check control lever for wear or other damage. Replace if necessary.
  2. 2
    Check wires for discontinuity or deterioration. Replace if necessary.
  3. 3
    Check warning lamp and switch. Replace if necessary.
  4. 4
    Check components at each connection point and, if deformed or damaged, replace.

Adjustment

  1. 1
    Loosen parking brake cable.
  2. 2
    Depress brake pedal fully more than 5 times.
  3. 3
    Adjust control lever by turning adjusting nut on front cable.

    Pull control lever with specified amount of force. Check lever stroke and ensure smooth operation.
    1. Specified pull-force: 196 N (20 kg, 44 lb).
    2. Number of notches: 6 - 8.
    Step 4: 196 N (20 kg, 44 lb) force applied vertically to the handle tip; count notches.

    Bend parking brake warning lamp switchplate so that brake warning lamp comes on before first notch on ratchet, and goes out when lever is fully released.
