Manual Steering Gear Removal (Cont'd)
- 5Slacken lower joint tightening bolts and remove lower joint from steering gear pinion.Do not forcibly spread flange of lower joint when disassembling.Ensure joint and pinion are marked for correct alignment during re-assembly.
UST025 - 6Support transmission housing with engine jack and remove engine centre member and rear engine mounting (see EM section for details).
SST579B - 7Disconnect transmission linkage (support rod and control rod for manual transmission vehicles and transmission cable and mounting bracket for N·CVT vehicles) and place aside.
UST026 - 8Remove steering gear mounting bolts.
UST027 - 9Slacken dust boot retaining strap and remove dust boot from pinion.
- 10For LHD vehicles, rotate gear and displace through right-hand wheel arch until left-hand tie rod is clear to drop out through bottom of engine bay, then remove assembly. • For RHD vehicles, rotate gear and displace through left-hand wheel arch until right-hand tie-rod is clear to drop out through bottom of engine bay, then remove assembly.
