Spark plug — gap & install

  1. 5
    Check spark plug gap.
    Gap: 1.0 - 1.1 mm (0.039 - 0.043 in)
Hand measuring spark plug gap with a wire gauge; side electrode labeled and gap dimension indicated on adjacent thumbnail diagram.
    SMA476
  2. 6
Install spark plugs. Reconnect ignition wires according to nos. indicated on them.
    Spark plug: 20 - 29 N·m (2 - 3 kg-m, 14 - 22 ft-lb)

Checking Ignition Leads

  1. 1
Inspect leads for cracks, damage, burned terminals and for improper fit.
  2. 2
Measure the resistance of leads and check for breaks.
Ohmmeter connected to spark plug ignition lead, measuring resistance with the leads splayed out for inspection.
    SMA015A

Ignition lead resistance — Unit: kΩ/m (kΩ/ft)

BOUGICORD 403 CLASS E1
Resistance per length4.48 - 6.72 (1.365 - 2.048)
If the resistance exceeds the above specification, replace the ignition lead with a new one.
