HOW TO FOLLOW FLOW CHART IN TROUBLE DIAGNOSES

GI-10flowchart

Example flow chart — diagnosing crankangle-sensor circuits

1
INSPECTION START
2
[A] CHECK POWER SUPPLY. 1) Turn ignition switch "ON". 2) Check voltage between terminal (b) and ground. Battery voltage should exist.
N.G.
Check the following items.
Check the following items. 1) Harness continuity between crankangle sensor and battery 2) E.C.C.S. relay-1 (See page EF & EC-106.) 3) "BR" fusible link 4) Power source for E.C.U. (See page EF & EC-104.) 5) Ignition switch
O.K.
3
[B] CHECK GROUND CIRCUIT. 1) Turn ignition switch "OFF". 2) Disconnect crankangle sensor harness connector. 3) Check resistance between terminal (d) and ground. Resistance: Approximately 0 Ω

NOTICE

Notice — using the trouble-diagnosis flow chart

  1. 1
Use the flow chart after locating probable causes of a problem following the "Preliminary Check" or the "Symptom Chart".
  2. 2
After repairs, re-check that the problem has been completely eliminated.
  3. 3
Refer to Component Parts Location and Harness Layout for the Systems described in each section for identification/location of components and harness connectors.
  4. 4
Refer to the Circuit Diagram for Quick Pinpoint Check. If you must check circuit continuity between harness connectors in more detail, such as when a sub-harness is used, refer to Wiring Diagram and Harness Layout in EL section for identification of harness connectors.
  5. 5
When checking circuit continuity, ignition switch should be "OFF".
  6. 6
Before checking voltage at connectors, check battery voltage.
  7. 7
After accomplishing the Diagnostic Procedures and Electrical Components Inspection, make sure that all harness connectors are reconnected as they were.
