CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT — On-vehicle (Rear Wheel Alignment)

RA-5prose procedure

Rear Wheel Alignment

PRELIMINARY INSPECTION

Make following checks. Adjust, repair or replace if necessary.

Preliminary inspection

  1. 1
Check tires for wear and for improper inflation.
  2. 2
Check rear wheel bearings for looseness.
  3. 3
    Check wheel runout.
    Wheel runout: Refer to S.D.S.
Wheel runout setup: tire mounted on the hub with a dial-indicator stand placed on the ground next to it. Two indicators (Radial runout, Lateral runout) are positioned against the tire — one on the tread (radial), one on the sidewall (lateral). Labels 'Outside' and 'Inside' mark the tire faces.

  4. 4
Check that rear shock absorber works properly.
  5. 5
Check rear axle and rear suspension parts for looseness.
  6. 6
    Check vehicle posture (Unladen*).
*: Fuel, radiator and engine oil full. Spare tire, jack, hand tools and mats in designated positions.

CAMBER

CamberPreset at factory; not adjustable
−0°35' to 0°5'
If the camber is not within specification, inspect and replace any damaged or worn rear suspension parts.

TOE-IN

Toe-in measurement

  1. 1
Draw a base line across the tread. After lowering rear of vehicle, move it up and down to eliminate friction.
Tire with a vertical 'Base line' chalked across the tread, drawn with the tire rotated and a curved arrow showing the direction of rotation. A measuring stand is positioned in front of the tread.
    SMA123
  2. 2
Measure toe-in. Measure distance "A" and "B" at the same height as hub center.
    Total toe-in:
    A − B: −0.7 to 2.7 mm (−0.028 to 0.106 in)
    2θ: −0°7' to 0°23'
Top-down schematic of the two rear tires with reference lines parallel to the centre line of the body. Dimensions 'A' (rear edge) and 'B' (front edge) are measured between the tires at hub-centre height. The vehicle 'Front' is indicated by an arrow. Formulas: 'Toe-in = A − B' and 'Total toe-in = 2θ'.
    SMA124A
  3. 3
If the toe-in is outside specification, inspect and replace any worn or damaged parts.
Total toe-in (A − B)Preset at factory; not adjustable
−0.7 to 2.7mm (−0.028 to 0.106 in)
Total toe-in (2θ)Preset at factory; not adjustable
−0°7' to 0°23'
